The Beulaville Baptist Book club Presents: A Bur-Less-Q Nutcracker!

The Beulaville Baptist Book Club Presents:  A Bur-Less-Q Nutcracker!

November 29 – December 29, 2013

One of America's most Beloved Nutcrackes! The hit cult show is back for its 7th year! The Beulaville Baptist Book Club is in dire financial straits and by mistake hires the Velvet Kittens Burlesque troupe to do a performance of The Nutcracker. Will Dickey, the token male member of the Book Club, be drafted in to dance in the show, or will he remain too busy catching up on his brother’s porn DVD collections? This perennial favorite received the 2011 & 2012 “Nutty” award nomination for being one of the most beloved Nutcrackers in the entire Country!  Original premiere in 2007.

"The most hilarious production I have ever seen!  MBS Productions scores another huge hit with this holiday show that is an over-the-top, must see, "nut cracking" romp!!" Richard Blake - The Column
"MBS Productions lovingly spoofs 'The Nutcracker,' and the result is plum funny, sugar." -Mark Lowry, TheaterJones.com
"..is as ridiculously fun as its title suggests.... This is a 'Nutcracker' for anyone who always wanted to chuckle during the ballet but didn’t feel they could. Here, it’s encouraged." Arnold Wayne Jones - Dallas Voice

Persistence in Memory

February 6 – February 22, 2014

A play about a man, a woman, a chair, a mirror, and a noose.  This ground breaking theatrical event debuted in 1987 at the experimental Deep Ellum Theatre Garage and has been evolving ever since.  The “man” in the play who was 24 when the play premiered is now 48. In the play he examines his life, recounts experiences, both humorous and tragic, confesses secrets, and copes with love and loss.  While the events of his early life remain the same, his point of view has changed with the passage of time and new experiences and reflections are added to the script.   How best to describe this play?  ”It's astounding. Exhausting. Intensely intimate, revelatory. Yet it speaks volumes to universal experience.” – Alexandra Bonifield, Critical Rant & Rave.  “This isn’t theatre.  It’s Art.” Jason Rice – PegasusNews.com.  Because this play continues to evolve over the years every time it is presented it is considered a World Premier.

Marianela

April 3 – April 26, 2014

Marianela is a poor illiterate woman who leads a life of infectious joy.  Everyone who comes in contact with her is transformed and falls in love with her.  She works as a “seeing” eye person for a young man, Pablo, who lost his sight at birth.  Pablo falls in love with her even though he is engaged to Florentina.  Florentina’s family has arranged for an expensive and experimental surgery for him to cure his blindness with the condition that he goes through with the marriage. Will Pablo choose Marianela or his sight?  This visionary tale of love and choices of the most celebrated and beloved 18th century Spanish novel will receive its World Premiere Adaptation/Translation on our stage.  Adapted and translated by Mark-Brian Sonna.

John XII

May 29 – June 29, 2014

Who was John XII?   A backstabbing, bitchy, conniving, manipulative, sexy, lustful, and wickedly funny man that changed the world.  His real name was Octavius, and for 8 years he ruled the world.  He was a lover of women and men, and he was appointed Pope at the age of 18.  Was he a devil or a saint?  You decide.  This comedic drama is based on the historical, outrageous, and controversial events surrounding John’s ascent to the papacy. This play contains adult language, sexual situations, and nudity. Original Premiere 2009.

"visionary... magic happens and the audience is transported to the year 955 to be voyeurs to a most interesting, sordid and purposely obscured piece of Catholic Church history....quite an accomplishment! - Amazing."-Gregory Sullivan Isaacs, TheatreJones.com
“In telling the story of the controversial lover Pope Octavius, [Sonna] may have hit upon the perfect pairing with his edgy brand of comedic drama."-Merritt Martin, Dallas Observer
“From scene to scene, audience members sit poised, at the edge of their seats completely enthralled."-Bianca Baidoo, The Column

The Straight Guy

July 17 – August 10, 2014

Jason is a young straight guy who seems to has had a series of disastrous dates with women because everyone thinks he's gay.  He currently has a friends with benefits relationship with Lara that is going nowhere.  His straight acting friend Kyle is actually gay, and is in a secret unsatisfactory relationship with an older man. The two become roommates without realizing each other's sexual orientation:  Jason thinks Kyle is straight, and Kyle thinks Jason is gay. Complications ensue when Lara becomes interested in Kyle, and Kyle’s secret boyfriend is actually Jason’s uncle. Things become even more complicated when Jason and Kyle are set up on a blind date, and it’s with each other!  This modern comedy about dating reflects the present day reality of being single, dating and the mis-conceptions of sexual orientation. World Premiere.
